Fisker

Fisker is the handiwork of  the former Aston Martin lead designer and it is a relatively new company, having been started in 2007. After parting ways with the Ford subsidiary, Fisker started a coach building firm in 2005 and his first production of the Fisker models were rebodied versions of Mercedes Benz SL 55 AMG and the BMW 6-Series Coupe.

By the year 2007, there was a company by the name Quantum Technologies that had already developed a wide range of electric vehicle systems for use in the military, but they were also looking for a way to put them into civilian use. By this time, Fisker’s design for the car now known as Karma was already perfected; however, it had no power train. The two then came together and this saw the birth of Fisker Automotive in September 2007.

Fisker’s first task was to draw the world’s attention to the Karma four door sedan ideas, a task they successfully achieved during the Detroit Auto Show in January 2008, barely four months after the company was formed.

One year later, in 2008, the global financial crisis drove the automotive industry into an even bigger crisis and the bid three had to seek government’s support. Fisker, on other hand, saw an opportunity and took advantage of the situation to start a second facility in Detroit.

The company intended to roll out the Karma in 2009, but this was not to be as the company repeatedly delayed environmental certifications and it was not until 2011 when deliveries began in the United States.

The future looks bright for Fisker, with the company keen on improving on the Karma S hardtop convertible. The cars are also destined to be built with the smaller and more affordable Project NINA platform for more convenience and efficiency.
