Car Shipping Hamilton, Auto Transport Ontario

Hamilton is a port city on the southwestern shore of Lake Ontario in the Canadian province of Ontario. Named for George Hamilton, an early property owner who dedicated land for the town site shortly after the War of 1812, the city has become the center of the densely populated and industrialized Golden Horseshoe region.

Hamilton had the first commercial telephone service in Canada, the first telephone exchange in the British Empire, and the second telephone exchange in all of North America in 1877–78.

Hamilton’s population doubled from 1900 to 1914. Two local steel manufacturers formed, Stelco in 1910 and Dofasco in 1912. Procter & Gamble in 1914 and Beech-Nut Packing in 1922 opened their first manufacturing plants outside the USA. The Pigott Building, the city’s first high-rise, went up in 1929. A second Canadian Tire store opened in 1934, a Studebaker assembly plant in 1948, and then the Burlington Bay Skyway came in 1958 and the first Tim Hortons store in 1964. Since then, many large industries have relocated or shut down, and the economy has shifted toward health, education, and transportation services.

In January 2001, the new city of Hamilton emerged from the merger of the Regional Municipality of Hamilton-Wentworth and six smaller municipalities. The City of Hamilton population increased from 331,121 to 519,949.

Hamilton has a large French community with provincial services in French. There are francophone schools and churches and a cultural and community center, the Centre français Hamilton inc, which organizes activities to promote the French language.

TradePort International Corporation manages and operates the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport, where passenger traffic increased from 90,000 in 1996 to approximately 900,000 in 2002. Courier companies operating at the airport are United Parcel Service and Cargojet Canada. The airport is also home to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.
