The Trent–Severn Waterway, an historic canal route connecting Lake Ontario at Trenton near Belleville and Lake Huron at Severn, passes through the center of Lindsay. The Trans-Canada Highway as Provincial Highway 7 also passes through the city.
In February 2014 the Kawartha Lakes Economic Development Office announced a 12-percent increase from 4,169 to 4,739 in the number of registered businesses within the city.
